What is a Competent Authority?

Under Open Banking and PSD2, a Competent Authority is a government body or regulatory/supervisory authority that is responsible for regulating and supervising the participants in open banking, especially Third-Party Providers. Third-Party Providers must obtain a license from their country’s national competent authority (NCA) before being allowed to access banks’ customer data.
